CCFC fan here. Was parked up in Cov City Centre one Saturday afternoon late on, around 4:30 ish, when this flash car pulled in front of me, and parked up. Out got Frank Worthington. Recognised him straight away. Although by this time he had retired, he still sported those trade mark long locks although his waistline wasn't quite what it was. I wound down my window, and said hello Frank, how can I help. He told me he was looking for a hotel in Cov because he was guest speaker at a sports dinner dance that evening and he was lost. Can't remember which hotel it was now, but when he told me the name of the hotel, I thought cripes that;s miles away, and the directions will take 10 minutes to explain. The missus was out shopping, so I said to Frank I'll take you there just follow me, which he did. He was a lovely gent and most grateful too. Although he was a Foxes legend sorry to hear of his passing. RIP Frank.

Absolutely right - he was an entertainer. Shame we don't have too many of those today.

The goal he scored for Bolton by juggling the ball and then flicking it up and over the defenders heads before smashing it in the net was sublime! If Messi did that , everybody would be saying that is why he is the best player in the world!

I was at the game in 1975 at Spurs when we lost 0-3 to Leicester. Worthington scored and he reminded me of Stan Bowles, incredibly gifted and charismatic with it. Admired by everyone. A sad loss. RIP.

So true, Osgood had same treatment.
@limedickandrew60163 жыл бұрын
I think it was more down to Alf Ramsey. Alf changed teams very rarely, and Revie was little different. It was a lot harder to get into the England team back then than it is now. In fact, pretty much all club managers at the time only changed their team because of injury/suspension. Think the philosophy was very much to keep the same eleven as much as possible. Things kind of changed in the 80s.

I used to watch "Frankie Wortho" when I was a kid at Filbert Street in the 70s. Great player & a great character of the game. It was worth the entrance fee to stand in the Spion Kop & watch him do his stuff. Every time he got the ball, a wave of excitement gripped the fans.
